I Have to be Admitted

If you have to be admitted to hospital, the Admissions Unit will organise the time and day and instruct you on any specific preparation you must make.

We recommend you bring someone with you. Having the collaboration of a family member or friend is important as they can help you with any basic needs which you are unable to carry out by yourself.

If you present at the Emergency Department and the doctors decide you must be admitted to hospital, the Admissions Unit will help you arrange the admission. Remember the documents you must take when you go for a visit at the Emergency Department

Where do I go?

For admissions scheduled for between 8 am and 8 pm, present at the Customer Service (Atenció a l’Usuari) counter in the main foyer.

If you are being admitted for a surgical operation, you must not eat or drink anything for at least 6 hours beforehand and you must enter the hospital at 7 am via the emergency department (left side entrance)

Once the admission has been arranged, the ward staff will inform you of your room number and explain the ward’s functioning and regulations during your stay.

What documents must I bring in?

  • Referral letter.
  • Information on any medication you are taking, where applicable.
  • Information on the examinations you have undergone, where applicable.
  • ID documents and healthcare card
  • Card from your friendly society or insurance company, if the admission is a result of a sports, workplace or traffic accident.

How do I organise sick leave from work?

In the case of sick leave due to a common illness, your GP will sign the paperwork for the time you will need off work.

In the case of a workplace accident, the Hospital specialists will sign the paperwork for the time you need off work.

The Hospital’s physicians will sign the paperwork for the time you need off work for both common illnesses and accidents.

Bring a pyjama or nightgown, robe, slippers, a change of clothing, personal hygiene items and towels.

Do not bring jewellery or valuable objects. If you would like us to take care of an item for you, you must request this expressly at the Customer Service Unit (Unitat d’Atenció a l’Usuari).

The TV set in your room is free to use but you must wear earphones (not provided by the Hospital)

Visiting hours are 12 pm to 9 pm. The main door will be open only to leave from between 8 pm and 9 pm. We advise you limit the number of visits to 1 person at a time. Visits by children under 12 years of age are not recommended.
